This is the pre-announcement of the call to be opened for the AiNed Fellowship grant program component. It is part of the 'knowledge and innovation base' subprogram of the AiNed Programme, which develops technological knowledge and innovations as well as knowledge and methodologies for human-centered AI.
Without an independent knowledge and innovation base, increasing dependence on foreign parties threatens. The aim of the Fellowship grants is to make Dutch academic knowledge institutions more attractive to exceptional and excellent AI researchers in the international battle for talent. This applies both to attracting new talent and to retaining talented researchers who receive competitive international offers.
The focus is on exceptional AI talent that can work in any AI discipline, from technology to social sciences and humanities. The Fellowship grants increase the number of PhD and postdoctoral researchers at Dutch universities focused on the challenges from the AI research agenda AIREA-NL. In the first round, the Fellowship grants are aimed at attracting new talent, many of whom also receive competitive international offers. Thanks to the use of AiNed Fellowship grants, the knowledge and education base in the field of AI in the Netherlands is strengthened and the national ecosystem strengthened.
The AiNed Fellowship grant program component targets all Dutch universities and the NWO and KNAW institutes. The total grant budget for this program component in the first round (2022-2023) is €20 million.
Details for the launch of the call are currently being worked out with NWO. The date of the opening of the call will be announced later via the NWO and AiNed website.
This call to be opened is part of the approach from the AiNed Programme. The Programme promotes the development and application of AI among Dutch businesses and governments. The AiNed public-private multi-year program puts the Netherlands in the leading group of AI countries and makes a major contribution to its international competitive position.
